Pioneer of Esports 2025

Freshau Award

The Fershau Award: Honouring a Legacy of Esports Leadership in Manitoba

The Manitoba School Esports Association is proud to announce the creation of the Fershau Award, our inaugural recognition of outstanding individuals—coaches, teachers, administrators, or community champions—who have made a meaningful impact on scholastic esports in our province.

This award is named in honour of Andrew Fershau, a pioneer whose unwavering dedication and leadership over the past decade helped lay the foundation for organized scholastic esports in Manitoba. From organizing divisional tournaments on the Wii in the Louis Riel School Division to helping establish the Manitoba High School Esports Association, Andrew has been instrumental in shaping the esports landscape in our schools.

A standout moment in Andrew’s journey was his tireless effort in drafting much of the foundational paperwork that gave structure to our community. His collaborative spirit, mentorship of students, and countless volunteer hours reflect his commitment to a student-first ethos—where teamwork, growth, and inclusion lead the way. Andrew is also a passionate outdoorsman, embodying balance and well-being, qualities he instills in the students he coaches.

As a member of MSEA and its Scholastic Esports Expo (SEE) Council, we are honoured to name Andrew the first-ever recipient of the Fershau Award.

Beginning in November 2025, MSEA students can nominate a candidate for this annual award—someone they believe continues to uplift and advance the scholastic esports community in Manitoba, just as Andrew has.

Please join us in celebrating Andrew’s legacy, and stay tuned for the opening of nominations. Next year, the difference-maker we recognize could be someone you know!
