What is MSEA?

Manitoba School Esports Association is a not-for-profit organization committed to connecting, informing, and supporting competitive gaming in schools across Manitoba.

MSEA is an amalgamation of the former MYEMB (Middle Years Esport Manitoba) and MHSeA (Manitoba High School eSports Association). With the expansion of esports in Manitoba, MSEA was developed to bring all scholastic esports under the same organization.

MSEA exists to support schools to provide the opportunity to help students develop 21st Century Skills while promoting well-being and community belonging through competitive gaming,

Melissa Burns, the founder of MYEMB, set out to support educators, administrators, and parents in creating these spaces for students to grow.

Our Vision

To provide opportunities for students to develop holistically as learners, community members, gamers, and competitors equipped with future ready skills through esports programming.

Driven by the strengths of our respective communities and experiences, MSEA is committed to a student-centred approach to esports that values the learning and holistic development that gaming provides for our students. Built upon our core values, we strive to bring together communities across Manitoba to support the growth and development of digital literacy, global competencies, social emotional learning, sportsmanship, and excellence in our students. We aim to provide opportunities for them to compete, play, and explore career possibilities in partnership with leading industry experts that support local economy and future development.

Land Acknowledgement /
Reconnaissance des territoires

Greetings, fellow gamers and pixel adventurers! As we power up our consoles and navigate the virtual realms of esports, let us also honour the tangible lands upon which we stand.

We acknowledge that the Manitoba School Esports Association (MSEA) operates within the bounds of Treaty 1 territory. Just as we strategize in-game, let us recognize the strategic alliances forged by the Cree, Ojibwe, Dakota, Ojibwe-Cree, and Dene Nations—their ancestral lands interwoven with the very code of this place.

In this pixelated landscape, we pay homage to the Red River Métis, whose legacy flows like a hidden Easter egg through our history. And let us not forget the northern expanses, where the Inuit once roamed, leaving their footprints in the snow.

As we level up our understanding, let this acknowledgment be our save point—a checkpoint where we commit to truth, reconciliation, and collaboration. May our controllers be guided by respect, and our high scores reflect the honour we bestow upon this sacred terrain.
